What are they?

The MOLN Basotect acoustic baffle is a sound absorber with simple and effective design, especially suitable for reducing echo and high reverberation problems in: restaurants, classrooms, offices, libraries, sports centres, and industry in general.

It is made of Basotect® acoustic foam of the highest quality, combining high performance in sound absorption with the best fire-resistance: Class 1, Bs1d0.

It is designed as a versatile sound absorber, combining two types of installation: glued or suspended. It has up to 5 different mounting options.
The proportions have been defined to achieve the best balance in sound absorption / cost ratio; with a self-installing assembly system to obtain a simple and usable product that gives an optimum performance.

Important!

This Basotect acoustic baffle has Class 1 (BS 476/7) fire resistance.
It is suitable for installing in public establishments.

What is the application used for?

MOLN is the best soundproofing solution; it is self-installable and specially designed for solving problems related to echo and high reverberation (noise) usually existing in: restaurants, pubs, classrooms, offices, libraries, sports centres, and industry. It is suitable in general, for all rooms with excessive reverberation, where, in addition to high sound absorption, adequate fire behaviour is needed to comply with the fire requirements in public areas.

It creates a comfortable, quiet and relaxing acoustic environment.

What is their format?

  • Panels measuring: 800mm x 500mm x thickness of 50mm.
  • Color: Light grey, White or Painted (RAL chart)
  • Sold in units: area coverage = 0.4 m2
  • Normal packaging: According to units (200g / ud.)

Color option: Painted

The acoustic panels are painted in the color chosen by the client according to the RAL color chart.

In the tab "Color : Painted" you will find detailed information on the characteristics of this option.

How is it installed?

It is self-installable, and no work is necessary. The MOLN acoustic baffle can be glued directly with our Skac Adhesive, or suspended, with the special Galgar hanging system.
Consult the "Installation" tab for detailed information about the different mounting options.

How much do I need?

The term "self-installable" not only refers to the assembly process; we also provide a simplified guide for help you determine the correct quantity of Moln acoustic baffle, depending on the desired grade of sound comfort and without having to make complex acoustic calculations.

To simplify the result, we have defined three different grades of comfort:

Live a grade with fewer sound absorbers, designed for rooms in which a light sound atmosphere with liveliness is required, such as pubs, cafes, sports complexes, sports rooms and industrial buildings.
Medium the standard grade; a balanced ratio between the quantity and grade of sound absorption; defined to achieve an adequate level of sound comfort for holding conversations without raising the voice in: restaurants, classrooms...
Dark a higher degree of sound absorption, to achieve the lowest reverberation level; suitable for rooms that require a more peaceful and private acoustic environment such as restaurants, libraries and offices.

For rooms with ceilings up to 4m it is advisable to use the glued mounting type; for greater ceiling heights, it is best to install the acoustic baffles using the suspended mounting type.

Mounting type: GLUED

The following table shows you the % of area that must be covered with sound absorbers, depending on the height of the room and the grade of sound comfort.

Height / GradeLiveMediumDark
up to 3m 25 % 40 % 55 %
up to 4m 35 % 50 % 65 %
up to 5m 45 % 60 % 75 %

The necessary units of Moln acoustic baffle will be the result of dividing the area to be covered by 0.4 m2 (area occupied by one Moln baffle unit).

Example: Restaurant with a dining area of 50 m2 and a ceiling height of 3m. Desired sound comfort grade: 'medium'.
Area to be covered = 50 m2 x 40% = 20 m2 of sound absorbers.
Necessary units = 20 m2 / 0.4 m2 = 50 units of Moln to be installed.

Mounting type: SUSPENDED

In this mounting type, the calculation is made based on the room dimensions (width x length) and the desired grade of comfort.

By default, different linear sets of suspended baffles are configured, parallel to the longest dimension of the room. Each linear set maintains a free space of 25cm between the panels, in modules of 80cm (baffle) + 25cm (free space).
Depending on the desired grade of comfort, the distances between different linear sets will be:

  • Live: separation of 120cm between the different linear sets.
  • Medium: separation of 80cm between the different linear sets.
  • Dark: separation of 50cm between the different linear sets.

Example: Restaurant with a dining area of 5m x 10m. Desired sound comfort grade: 'medium' -> separation between different linear sets = 80cm.
N. of baffles in each linear set (along the dimension of 10m): 1000cm / (80cm + 25cm) = 9.5 => 9 baffles in each set.
N. of linear sets (with a dimension of 5m): 500cm / 80cm = 6.25 => 6 linear sets.
Total number of suspended baffles required = 9 baffles x 6 linear sets = 54 Moln acoustic baffle units.

The quantity calculations indicated above is a simplified selection guide. If you have any question or you want that our acousticians make you a customized proposal, please contact-us!.

The MOLN acoustic baffles can be installed in two different ways:

  • Glued: applying our acoustic adhesive, Skac Adhesive (1 cartridge for 6 panels).
  • Suspended: using the special Galgar hanging system (1 pair-set for each baffle*).

* If the suspended installation is the 'cloud' type, 2 pairs for each unit will be necessary.

In general, for ceilings with heights of up to 4 metres, the glued assembly method is recommended. For rooms with ceilings over 4 metres, it is best to install the baffles using the suspended assembly system.

Mounting type: GLUED

Moln can be mounted horizontally or vertically. At any case, it is advisable for the product not to be accessible to the public, to protect the foam from damage.

The number of units to be installed will be distributed along the entire surface that needs to be treated (ceiling / walls).
The acoustic panels can be installed alone or in clusters of 4-6 units.

Necessary accessories: SKAC ADHESIVE, 1 cartridge for each 6 Moln panel.

Mounting type: SUSPENDED

This mounting method is recommended for large rooms with high ceilings, for instance: sports centres, libraries, gymnasiums, warehouses...

Necessary accessories: GALGAR, 1 pair-set for each Moln acoustic baffle.

Three types of installation (from right to left in the picture): horizontal, vertical and cloud.
